M+, MoMA and Centre Pompidou form shared collection alliance

M+ in Hong Kong, MoMA in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris announced a cultural alliance bringing the three museums together.

They will treat their collections as one shared collection, with staff across the three institutions working together to curate it.

M+ holds around 8,000 objects, while the combined holdings of MoMA and the Pompidou bring the shared collection into the hundreds of thousands.

M+ works are due to go on long-term loan to MoMA from late 2027, and a Centre Pompidou gallery is planned at MoMA for 2028.

Over the next five years, the museums will also co-organize an exhibition about what “the contemporary” means, to be shown at all three institutions.

The alliance also covers research, conservation and professional development, creating more opportunities for exchange between the museums.

The Pompidou is closed for a five-year building restoration and is scheduled to reopen in 2030.
