Argentina faces questions over Flávio Bolsonaro’s flight to the US

Brazilian senator Flávio Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States after losing the presidential election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

He travelled with his wife and two daughters, crossing into Argentina before flying from Puerto Iguazú via Ecuador to Miami.

Brazilian authorities are investigating his route and who helped him, while Bolsonaro faces investigations involving alleged money laundering and corruption.

A Brazilian Supreme Court justice had ordered him to surrender his passports and barred him from leaving Brazil; Bolsonaro denies wrongdoing.

Argentina says the family entered legally and had valid travel documents, while its cabinet chief says there was no immigration restriction when they left.

Opposition lawmakers in Argentina allege government involvement, and reports have said adviser Santiago Caputo helped coordinate the flight, but the government has not confirmed this.

Brazil is seeking to establish whether Argentina or the United States assisted, and says it will leave the matter to the courts.
