Four trucks collide on A22 near Ala, trapping two drivers

A collision involving several trucks happened on Wednesday morning on the A22 Brenner motorway in northern Italy.

The crash occurred near Marani, between the Rovereto Sud and Ala/Avio exits, on the road toward Verona.

Initial information said four heavy vehicles were involved, and two drivers were trapped in their cabs.

Firefighters, ambulance crews, police and motorway staff responded, while a helicopter carried an emergency medical team to the scene.

Rescuers used hydraulic cutting equipment to try to free the drivers, and the area was secured.

Traffic was completely blocked as rescue work continued.

The crash came a day after a separate four-truck collision on the A22 near Verona killed 23-year-old driver Nathan Silbernagl; the available information does not say when Wednesday’s road will reopen.
