China and Peru mark 55 years of diplomatic relations

Xi Jinping and Keiko Fujimori marked 55 years of China-Peru diplomatic relations with messages exchanged on November 2.

China and Peru have a comprehensive strategic partnership, and both presidents described their ties as built on friendship and cooperation.

An upgraded free-trade agreement took effect on November 1, the day before the anniversary messages.

Xi said the change should improve trade cooperation and give new momentum to relations.

Both governments reaffirmed Peru’s commitment to the one-China principle, under which Beijing says Taiwan is part of China.

Xi and Fujimori said they want to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation.

The agreement is expected to deepen economic ties, while both sides say they will continue developing the broader partnership.
