Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 for first home league win of season

Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at home to claim their first home Premier League win of the season.

Florian Wirtz’s effort deflected off Pascal Gross and into the net in the 17th minute, before Alexander Isak scored Liverpool’s second four minutes later from Bradley Barcola’s cross.

Isak has now scored in three consecutive games and has six league goals in seven appearances.

The victory was Liverpool’s fourth in a row in all competitions, lifting them to fourth in the league, six points behind Manchester City and Arsenal.

Brighton had not conceded in more than nine hours of play before this match, but could not find a goal despite hitting the post.

They suffered their first defeat since the end of August.

Liverpool next face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
