Ofcom investigates complaint about Channel 5 Huw Edwards drama

Ofcom is investigating a complaint about Channel 5’s drama on Huw Edwards, the former BBC news presenter.

Edwards confirmed he made the complaint, which concerns the programme’s fairness and privacy.

The two-part drama, starring Martin Clunes, depicts events surrounding Edwards’ downfall and allegations involving a teenager.

Edwards says the programme gives a misleading account and includes inaccuracies, and says he was not given a fair chance to respond.

Channel 5 says the drama drew on interviews with the teenager and family, journalists, text exchanges and court reporting, and says it will defend the complaint.

Ofcom has not detailed the complaint’s grounds or reached a decision.

The regulator will review material from Edwards and Channel 5 before ruling on whether broadcasting rules were breached.
