The Flaming Lips announce first album without Steven Drozd

The Flaming Lips will release The Teardrop Throbs on January 22, their first new album since 2020.

The psych-rock band’s new record is its first album without multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd since 1991.

Drozd left in 2024; Wayne Coyne said he quit, while Drozd said he was fired after he went to addiction treatment.

The album is also the band’s first release on Third Man Records, ending its long association with Warner.

Its lead single is “God Will Control the Werewolves,” which Coyne said grew from playing hide-and-seek with his sons under a full moon.

The track list also includes “Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell Part Two,” a sequel to a song from the band’s 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

The band plans intimate shows after the album’s release, with dates listed in the United States and London.

I went back to treatment. And he just stopped talking to me. That was it. That was me basically being fired from the group.
