Feijóo promises inflation-linked pension rises and a new plan for young workers
People’s Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo promised to raise current pensions in line with inflation during campaigning in Spain.
He also said the party would create a sustainable pension system for younger generations.
The debate concerns how Spain will fund retirement benefits as many people born during the 1960s and early 1970s approach retirement.
The PP says the current system has a large deficit and needs reform, while insisting that today’s pensioners should keep their benefits.
Feijóo has proposed boosting productivity and competitiveness and cutting spending he considers unnecessary, rather than relying on large tax rises.
The party has not yet explained how its proposed system would work, so its plan remains to be set out.

Feijóo said the current system faces a large deficit and pressure from the retirement of people born during the 1960–1974 baby boom.
He proposed economic growth driven by competitiveness and productivity, alongside cuts to spending he considers unnecessary.

No funciona.
