Former F1 sensor supplier sues replacement over patent

Sentronics has sued Allengra in a Texas federal court over fuel flow meters used in Formula 1.

The British company supplied the FIA exclusively from 2018 to 2025, before German manufacturer Allengra took over the contract for 2026 to 2030.

Sentronics alleges Allengra’s meters infringe its US patent for measuring fuel flow in vehicles.

These meters are fitted to every F1 car and help the FIA enforce fuel-flow limits, which affect engine power.

Sentronics says its testing found that Allengra uses its patented method and is seeking damages and a permanent US ban on making or supplying the meters.

The lawsuit is not expected to affect the United States Grand Prix in Austin because Sentronics has not sought an emergency order to stop their use.

The case will proceed through the court, which has been asked to issue a summons.
