Paris meeting focuses on how to sustain French students’ protests

Hundreds of high school students from across France met at the Paris Labour Exchange on Saturday, 10 October.

They discussed how to continue protests after days of school blockades and demonstrations.

Some students said participation at their schools was falling and that the movement was becoming tiring.

They want to organize more assemblies, coordinate between cities and persuade more students and workers to join.

Some also discussed taking action beyond blocking schools, including during the school holidays.

Students from cities including Nantes and Montpellier attended, and one described the movement as becoming national.

They said they plan to continue mobilizing next week and are working on ways to keep the movement going.

What people are saying

We are really trying to find solutions to continue, to stay motivated because we know it is the only way to make the government hear us.

We have to try to convince as many people as possible, and not just high school students.

At this assembly, Nantes is here, Montpellier is here, there are lots of other cities. It’s becoming something a bit national.
