Italy plans two cigarette price increases in 2027
Italy’s cabinet approved a budget plan that brings forward a cigarette tax increase by six months.
The change means cigarette prices are set to rise twice in 2027, first in January and again from July 1.
Last year’s budget had set a schedule of annual increases in cigarette excise duties.
Under that schedule, the increase was about 25 cents per pack in 2027 and about 40 cents per pack from 2028.
The earlier increase will help fund the budget law.
The sources do not say what the final price of a pack will be.
