Bank of Italy launches a more accessible statistics portal

The Bank of Italy is launching a new statistics portal on Tuesday, October 20, European Statistics Day.

Instead of starting with a publication, users can look for data by topic, such as households, credit or public finances.

The portal highlights selected indicators and explains them in clear language, aiming to serve people without specialist knowledge as well as those with visual disabilities or assistive technology.

Interactive charts and tables are also intended to help experienced users work with the data more efficiently.

The bank says access to reliable, clearly explained statistics matters more as information sources multiply and generative AI becomes more widely used.

The existing Statistical Database will remain the main place to access the bank’s full range of statistical series, and the portal will also link to the Research Data Center’s microdata; statistical production is unchanged.
