Fire at Yelets industrial zone after reported attack

An attack struck Yelets’ industrial zone on 25 October, in the Lipetsk region of western Russia.

The region’s governor said the attack may have involved missiles and drones, while Ukrainian forces had not commented.

The zone includes the Energia defence plant, which makes batteries and power supplies for military equipment, but its involvement in the attack was not independently confirmed.

One person was killed and another injured; accounts differed on the injured person’s job, describing the person as a paramedic or an industrial worker.

Fire crews were still extinguishing smaller fires, and local officials said air checks found no danger to residents.

The blast damaged windows in several apartment buildings and seriously damaged a college, so classes will move online for the next few days.
