Daniel den Hoed Bridge installation begins in Rotterdam
Workers began installing the Daniel den Hoed Bridge in Rotterdam on Saturday.
It will connect Erasmus MC’s cancer department with Familiehuis Daniel den Hoed, where patients and relatives can stay near the hospital.
The ’s-Gravendijkwal road currently separates the two buildings, so people have to walk around it.
The bridge is intended to make crossing quicker and safer for patients and families, as well as hospital staff and other people nearby.
The bridge is not ready to use yet; workers will finish assembling it over the coming weeks.
It is expected to open in mid-December.
KWF contributed 1.1 million euros, much of it raised at the 2023 Rotterdam Marathon, and the city provided 6 million euros.
