Boston Scientific unveils China-made GX1 pain treatment device

Boston Scientific and Chinese medical company Acotec Medical unveiled a China-made version of the GX1 device in Shanghai during the China International Import Expo.

The device uses radiofrequency energy to target nerves or tissues linked to pain, and offers heat and pulsed treatment modes.

The companies are working together under China’s medical device registration-holder system, with production planned in China and a focus on the domestic market.

The device is intended as an option for some people whose pain is not well controlled by medicines or who cannot tolerate their side effects.

Neuropathic pain affects an estimated 6% to 7.7% of the general population, and China has nearly 90 million patients, according to the supplied information.

The company says the upgraded device includes real-time monitoring of electrode contact and changes designed to make it easier to use.

It has not yet been launched in mainland China, and no launch date is given.
