Saudi and Syrian leaders meet in Riyadh and sign cooperation agreements

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Wednesday.

The visit brought a high-level Syrian delegation, including the foreign, defence, finance and industry ministers.

The leaders discussed closer ties and regional issues, including security, maritime routes and the risks of military escalation.

They said dialogue and diplomacy were important to reducing tensions and protecting shipping and energy supplies.

The two countries signed cooperation agreements on industry, defence, agriculture and the environment.

Saudi Development Fund agreements also covered projects in infrastructure, health, housing and financial services.

The visit was al-Sharaa’s second trip to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, after a meeting on October 6.
