Türkiye ranks last among 19 European countries in 2026 pension index
Türkiye ranked last among 19 European countries in the 2026 Global Pension Index, prepared by Marsh and the CFA Institute.
The index compared 55 pension systems covering 66% of the world's population, judging income adequacy, long-term sustainability, and governance and protections.
Türkiye scored 46.6 out of 100 overall, while its sustainability score was 29.4; its governance and protections score was higher, at 71.
Ageing populations and falling birth rates are putting pension systems under pressure as the number of retirees grows relative to workers paying contributions.
The index recommends expanding private pension coverage, encouraging savings, and making it easier for people to work longer.
Without action, governments may have to raise retirement ages or reduce future pension benefits, and could also consider higher taxes or contributions.
