Documentary traces 50 years of residents’ activism in Badia del Vallès

A documentary about Badia del Vallès premieres on Movistar Plus+ on 29 October.

The town was built under Franco’s rule, when 200 buildings went up quickly with little planning and few essential services.

Residents organized and campaigned for schools, health centres and public transport, as well as sports and cultural facilities.

Their efforts also helped secure the removal of asbestos, a toxic material used in the buildings.

The film tells this history through residents’ accounts, alongside archive images and news footage; former Catalan leader Jordi Pujol also appears.

The story matters because residents still face housing issues, remaining asbestos and an ageing population, while the film argues that rights need continued defence.

The documentary connects past campaigns with current challenges and highlights the need to pass that history on to younger generations.
