Food distributor interviews 4,000 applicants for 40 jobs in Ezeiza

Food distributor Cabaña Santa Marta held in-person interviews in Ezeiza for jobs at a new branch it plans to open in November.

The company invited people to bring a printed CV and proof of identity, with no specific experience required.

The owner said 4,000 people applied for 40 jobs, though another account described the crowd as hundreds of people.

He said his team interviewed everyone who came, but could hire only about 1% of them.

The applicants included young people starting out and older people struggling to find work, as well as people whose current income was not enough.

The selected candidates will be notified Saturday, ahead of the branch opening.

I feel a mixture of motivation and sadness at the same time. Motivation because I am glad to see so many people want to join us, but sadness because we will only be able to give jobs to 1% of those who showed up.

People are tired of sending résumés and never getting to that face-to-face interview. So we said: let’s take advantage of social media going viral and guarantee everyone an interview.
