Authorities mark three years since Hurricane Otis hit Acapulco

Authorities marked three years since Hurricane Otis hit Acapulco in Mexico’s Guerrero state.

The ceremony included a flag flown at half-mast and a floral offering in the bay to remember the 68 people who died.

Otis struck the coast of Guerrero in 2023 and caused severe damage in Acapulco.

Navy personnel helped affected communities with humanitarian aid, security and medical care during the emergency, including in difficult conditions.

Officials also honored Navy staff who took part in the response.

The Navy urged emergency teams to maintain their training so they can respond quickly to future disasters.
