VA disability benefits could rise 3.6% in 2027

VA disability compensation could rise 3.6% in 2027 for eligible veterans.

More than 6 million people currently receive these monthly, tax-free payments from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The increase would match Social Security’s 2027 cost-of-living adjustment, which is based on changes in consumer prices.

The adjustment would also cover certain payments for dependents, clothing allowances and benefits for surviving spouses and children.

The added amount depends on each person’s current benefits; for example, a veteran receiving $180.42 a month at a 10% disability rating would get an estimated $6.50 more.

Congress must pass a bill before the increase is official, and the legislation has been introduced but is not yet law.

If approved, the increase would be applied automatically throughout 2027, with no new claim needed.
